Papua New Guinea guided tour

Nuakata is a mid sized island found east of East Cape and Boia Boia Waga.

Nuakata offers us a totally different experience from the ones at Alotau, East Cape and Boia Boia Waga. This island has many smaller and virtually self contained villages peppered along it's entire shore line. Even thought would take a few days to walk completely around the island, we get a great cross section of Nuakata Island, Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea. The northern most outpost is Levis's outpost. Nestled neatly into a ridge behind and beautiful sand beach and fringing reef, this outpost gives the snorkeller or fisherman simple access to the reef systems. Levis and his family are well known in the area for traditional dancing and the troop is used regularly by local villages for traditional celebrations. You're likely to be well entertained here.

Another outpost found not too far away is Joels family outpost. This outpost nudges his family's village and you'll find yourself part of the village when you stay here. Like Levis's outpost, this one too fronts onto a beach and has great views across the bay. Snorkelling is possible right off the doorstep, and gets better and better as you follow the reef edge northwards.

Nearly every afternoon around sunset, you'll find the local youths playing volleyball on the beach outside their church. You'll no doubt be invitied to join in and it's a great way to make friends. While you play, fishermen in their canoes will be drifting by quietly fishing for the evening meal as the sun sets behind them.

Joel can lead you to the nearby traditional skull caves and as he is the appointed undertaker, he will explain to you the no longer used practice and what it means to the people of the Island.

You'll get the opportunity here to take tours provided by the local families here such as traditional sailing canoe and paddling canoe lessons, snorkelling adventures to nearby outlying reefs, walking tours around the hillsides and villages and even hunting/gathering trips.
