During a guided adventure, your accommodation will change considerably. Due to the very nature of an adventure compared to an 'off the shelf - mainstream packaged tour', our accommodation, destinations and ultimate itinerary, do change. This is what makes the adventure adventurous !
In Alotau we have a couple of different westernized accommodation options. Where we actually stay will depend on availability at the time. All of the accommodation options we use make a stunning impact visually in the way they blend the local cultural arts with the accommodation. They offer a high standard of facilities and are a pleasure to stay at.
Wild PNG has constructed it's own outposts in various locations along the way for our use. They are virtually self contained villages built of traditional materials and owned and operated by the local villagers. The time and effort in the construction of these places is truly mind boggling when you consider they were built with minimal tools and absolutely no power tools. All of the large wooden posts are single tree trunks, carefully selected from the rainforest and hand carried and placed in it's correct position. The walls are woven pandanus palm leaf and the roofing is pandanus as well. Depending on the location the construction materials and methods vary and this makes each outpost unique, with it's own character.
From time to time, we spend time in a local village for the night. This is a rare and special event when it happens and is savoured by our guests all the more for the personal connection it brings with the local people. When enjoying this type of accommodation, we get to see in incredible detail, the life of the simple coastal people of Papua New Guinea.
No visit to the coastal parts of Papua New Guinea is complete without camping on a deserted tropical island. The Milne Bay region is wealthy in this respect and we have many perfect islands to choose from. Camping consists of tents and sleeping bags set litteraly on the edge of the beach facing the crystal clear water and surrounding coral reefs.
